Coming Soon: Version 1.4.3

This morning we submitted a QuickPix update to the App Store.  It should be available for download in about a week, but here’s a quick preview of what’s in store:

1:  Some users have reported that the Privacy Settings pop-up is appearing on iOS 5 devices.  The new update will fix this bug.  In the mean time, please turn on Location Services for QuickPix in iOS 5 to work around it.

2:  We have had a lot of requests to add Facebook to our list of sharing options.  Well, you asked for it and we listened.  QuickPix 1.4.3 has direct sharing to Facebook for iOS 6 users.

3:  Some QuickPix users really love their music.  We have had some reports that the music was stopping when launching QuickPix.  The good news is that this has also been fixed in the new version.  Version 1.4.3 will no longer stop your music when it’s opened.

There are a few more minor tweaks, bug fixes and optimizations under the covers as well, which should make this the best QuickPix ever.  Look for it in the App Store some time before November 1st.

Recent Updates – Version 1.4 – 1.4.2

You may have noticed, the QuickPix development team has been pretty busy.  In the past month, we have released 3 new updates to QuickPix, and we’d like to tell you why.

First, some of the new changes in iOS 6 impacted QuickPix.  We needed to release the first update to provide a functioning app for iOS 6 users.  That was version 1.4.  A little-known feature that was also added in 1.4 was the ability to use the volume (+) button as the camera shutter.  Many users have been asking for this, and now it is available.

Shortly after the release of 1.4, we found a minor bug where iPhone 5 users were not able to pull up the “info” page from the settings view.  This and a few other minor updates were released as version 1.4.1.

Unfortunately, we made a small mistake with the 1.4.1 release, inadvertently dropping support for all previous versions of iOS prior to 6.  We apologize for the inconvenience, and we responded quickly with a new update.

The 1.4.2 release came about because of our mistake as well as some user reports of problems.  Changes to the “Privacy” settings in iOS 6 were causing some users to have trouble with the app.

The latest version of QuickPix (1.4.2) now supports iOS versions back to 4.3, as well as a new feature to automatically detect when the privacy settings are wrong.  If your privacy settings are not correct, the app will present you with a new dialog, instructing you how to change your settings so that QuickPix will work properly.

All of this activity has us excited about bringing even more new features to QuickPix.  We are currently working on the next update, which we plan to submit to Apple by the end of the month (October).  Stay tuned for the latest and thanks for using QuickPix.

We were overwhelmed with the response to our Free QuickPix promotion.  Over 75,000 of you downloaded the app for free in just 2 days.  We’d like to extend a warm welcome to all of our new QuickPix users: Welcome to QuickPix.

Did you know that QuickPix updates are free for life?  Even if you got the app on one of our promotions, updates are yours for free.

That’s right.  No gimmicks, no catch, just free.

No ads, no in-app purchases.

The full-on QuickPix app that is loved by so many is now available for FREE in the app store.

We think that everybody deserves the ability to take more pix quicker, so for a short time we’re giving it away.

Now, this can’t last forever, so we suggest you get it quick.

What’s New in Version 1.2.2

Faster “hot start” time when waking from running in the background

Slightly faster “burst mode” with more consistent interval between captures

Another Batch of App Gifts

Here’s another installment of our favorite apps being awarded to the winners of the QuickPix renaming contest.

1: ColorSplash: A selective colorization app that makes adding that extra “pop” to your B&W images a snap.  A perennial app store favorite, and for good reason.

2: Sketch Me!: Very cool set of “sketch” effects.  Especially good for portraits.  Very easy to use.

3: Movie Looks: Apply custom filters to your videos is a snap with this app.  Several built-in filters and a lot more available as in-app purchase.

4: ReelDirector: Movie-editing app for iOS. Record voiceover, add music, transitions, stills, text and more.  When you’re done, upload directly to YouTube, save to camera roll or email.

5: ImageBlender:  Like the name says, this app is all about blending together 2 images.  Great for double-exposure effects and enhancing backgrounds.

We’re proud to announce that with the latest release of QuickPix, the app goes universal!  Now supporting the larger iPad2 interface natively, version 1.2.1 demonstrates our commitment to providing the best camera replacement app available for iOS.

With the high-speed, dual-core processor in the iPad 2, QuickPix has an astonishing burst rate of ~14 frames per second at full resolution.  Truly a sight to behold.

In our second installment of awards to the winners of the QuickPix renaming contest, we feature another handful of really cool apps and why we love ‘em. Enjoy!

1: Hipstamatic.  The app that started the retro iphoneography craze.  While it wont replace your default camera, Hipstamatic is a cool, fun addition to the virtual camera bag on your iphone.

2: Everyday.  A new app on the scene that reminds you to take a picture of yourself every day and creates an animated movie of your face over time.  Easy sharing options make this app a ton of fun.

3: Fruit Ninja. Super-fun, addictive “swipe and slice” game.  What a great way to waste those few extra minutes (or hours) you have on your hands between taking great photos.

4: Diptic. Easily create composite images to tell a story, show before & after and countless other possibilities right on your iOS device.  Great when a single image isn’t enough to express a moment, and you don’t want to sit down with a computer.

5: TypeDrawing. Ever want to simply lay some text on top of an image you just shot with your iPhone? TypeDrawing makes this a snap, plus so much more. With tons of cool effects to make your words come alive on your images, this is a great app to enhance your photos when a couple of words can make all the difference.

And Now the Awards!

Now that we have the winners of the QuickPix renaming contest, it’s time to start handing out the goods.  Yes, that’s plural – winners.  Special thanks to Glyn @ iphoneography.com for pointing out that not only did @oniontears inspire the name, but a blog comment from mooziqu actually nailed it.

In any case, we promised to gift out 50 of our favorite iOs apps to the winner, and we intend to do just that. Only difference is now two people will be getting the gifts instead of just one.

We had some trouble coming up with 50 favorites all on our own, so we enlisted the help of some of the most popular bloggers we know.  TechNMarketing, LifeInLoFi, and AppAdvice were kind enough to provide us with a load of suggestions.  Thanks so much!

We’re going to dole out the goods in batches of 5 apps each.  Here are our first 5 picks:

1: ProHDR.  So much better than the built-in HDR feature of the standard camera.  If you find yourself in challenging light situations (strong backlight, etc), this app will make you look like an absolute pro.  A must-have for iphoenographers.

2: AppAdvice. Simply the best app-discovery app anywhere.  If you’re wondering what cool apps to get, or want detailed reviews from iPhone pros on just about any app, this is the app to have.

3: 360 Panorama. We love this app.  Simply spin yourself around in a circle after pressing the capture button and 360 stitches together an awesome panorama.  The embedded viewer takes advantage of the gyro in your phone to really make your pano come to life. No other panorama app comes close.

4:  FX Photo Studio.  Think of it as Photoshop Lite for your iPhone.  Awesome array of effects, filters and editing tools to quickly enhance your photos before sharing them off to Facebook, Twitter, Flickr or by email.

5: Fahrenheit.  In case you haven’t noticed, Apple’s built-in weather app just stinks.  Fahrenheit is one of the best weather apps out there, and has the really cool added bonus of showing you the current temperature right on your home screen without opening the app.
